Workshops

“IMHA has organized workshops on a large variation of themes since the very beginning. The purpose of the IMHA workshops is to come to a position paper or report that can be seen as IMHAs official view on an important topic in maritime medicine”.

IMHA Workshop in Southampton

In February IMHA (International Maritime Health Association) organised a workshop to discuss Appendix E of the IMO/ILO Guidelines on the Medical Examination of Seafarers and the need for review of the medical guidelines. 17 participants from 11 countries met at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency in Southampton for three days of debate following the survey that was circulated over recent months. We look forward to sharing our work at ISMH17 in June.

IMHA Workshop in Esbjerg

In November 2024 IMHA organised a workshop to discuss the training of TMAS doctors. The event was hosted by Radio Medical Denmark and sponsored by the Seafarers’ Trust. It was attended by representatives of TMAS in 8 countries along with the shipping industry and seafarers. A lot of lively discussion and some invaluable input from public and private providers led to a suggested curriculum for such training. More work to be done but a good first step to try and ensure a high standard to remote medical advice is given to our seafarers. Keep an eye out for the full report to be published in International Maritime Health.

Thanks to Jan Vork and Line Emilie Laugesen for all their efforts in ensuring things ran smoothly and to Torben Leth for an interesting visit to the Danish Maritime training school.
